Building communities that empower the exploited.
Rebuilding lives & raising awareness.
Freekind exists to prevent human trafficking in our communities and support survivors on their journey to freedom. a merger in 2021, Freekind brings together two Virginia-based anti-trafficking nonprofits, Richmond Justice Initiative (RJI) and Virginia Beach Justice Initiative (VBJI).
Because a majority of human trafficking survivors in the United States were younger than 23 years old when their trafficking began, we created a prevention education curriculum designed to disrupt trafficking before it can begin. The Prevention Project program is our nationally recognized, survivor-informed prevention education curriculum with editions for middle and high school students as well as youth service providers.
For adult victims who have been incarcerated for crimes related to their abuse, we offer Offramps a program that includes jail-based classes to help identify victims, court support to advocate for alternative sentencing, re-entry planning to create a path to freedom, and transitional support as survivors reintegrate into the community.
Freekind addresses both ends of the anti-human trafficking spectrum: working with those who have been exploited to restore the freedom that was stolen from them, and equipping our youth to avoid having their vulnerabilities exploited by traffickers.
Freedom. Hope. Belonging.
