Operation Breakthrough: A Day of Action Against Human Trafficking, in partnership with Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue
Join us and our Community Partners at the Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue, Tiffany M. Boyle, MCR and Christopher Newport University for an impactful and enlightening event, "Operation Breakthrough," where we unite as a community to raise awareness and stand against the pervasive issue of human trafficking. Together, we will embark on a unique and visually striking art installation using the Red Sand Project, a powerful medium that symbolizes the hidden victims of human trafficking.
This event is more than just an art installation; it's a call to action. Through the Red Sand Project, we aim to shed light on the often unseen and overlooked aspects of human trafficking. The red sand represents the countless individuals who have fallen victim to this heinous crime, and our collective effort will serve as a testament to our commitment to break the chains of exploitation.
Operation Breakthrough is a chance for our community to come together, learn, and take meaningful action against human trafficking. Let's break the silence, raise our voices, and be a beacon of hope for those affected by this grave injustice. Your presence and participation can make a difference—be a part of the movement for change. Together, we can break through the darkness and pave the way to a future free from the shackles of human trafficking.
Winter 2025 Book Club
Join us in our upcoming virtual Winter 2025 Book Club beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 4th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The book that has been selected for this special discussion is titled “In Pursuit of Love: One Woman’s Journey from Trafficked to Triumphant" by Rebecca Bender.
Whether you volunteer with Freekind or not you will have the incredible opportunity to hear directly from Rebecca Bender herself, as the author has graciously agreed to join the group and participate in the last sessions discussion. This is a fantastic chance for Freekind's community to dive deep into an empowering and meaningful book, while also fostering valuable connections with the organization's leadership and fellow volunteers who are equally dedicated to the cause.
Those interested in attending this virtual Book Club are encouraged to RSVP here as soon as possible, as spaces are limited and sure to fill up quickly for this special event. Don't miss out on this enriching experience - sign up today to reserve your spot and get ready to uncover the profound purpose that can be found, even in life's most challenging moments.
Please note: these meetings will take place virtually via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday evenings and will end on March 4th.

The Freedom Conversation at Made, Co.
Join us for an informative evening exploring the reality of human trafficking in our city and how we can take action to bring freedom. Hosted by our Community Partners at Made, Co., we are excited to announce that our Executive Director of Freekind, Lisa Kersey, will be a panelist alongside Sharon Powell, founder of Powell Law, an immigration law firm in Williamsburg.
In addition to the educational panel, the event will include a Q&A session, refreshments, and an opportunity to shop our collection with 15% of proceeds going to Freekind. You'll also learn practical next steps to get more involved in the fight against human trafficking, both locally and globally.
Whether you're well-versed on this issue or just starting to learn, you're welcome to join us for an honest, survivor-informed discussion filled with opportunities to be equipped as an advocate. Given the sensitive nature of this topic, there may be difficult or triggering content, which we will handle with care and intention.
Please note that this event is not recommended for children under 13 years old.
